The activity panel in Home Assistant is getting a "Triggered by" filter. It answers the usual question when a light comes on or a cover moves at an odd time: who or what did that? Paul Bottein's frontend pull request #55064 was merged by maartenla on 19 October 2026 at 14:53 Polish time, so the filter should ship with Home Assistant 2026.11 in early November. The OHF Daily digest picked it up on 20 October.
What you can pick
The new section sits with the panel's other filters. It lists every person in Home Assistant who has a linked user account, by name, and then four groups:
- Automations,
- Scripts,
- Integrations,
- Other.
You can tick several entries at once, for example your own name and Automations. A badge shows how many are selected, and a single button clears the selection.
How an entry is assigned
An entry matches the cause shown under it in the activity list, so the filter follows what you already see on screen. A run beats the user who started it: if you start a script that switches on a light, that entry falls under Scripts, not under your name.
Only users linked to a person show up by name. Every other user account, such as the one Node-RED uses, is counted under Integrations, together with integrations like HomeKit and Google Assistant. Entries without a known cause go to Other. That includes action calls made without a user: they carry the domain of the action, not of the integration that made the call, so Home Assistant cannot say which integration it was.
Where it helps
The activity panel can already be narrowed down to particular entities, devices or areas. With the cause filter on top, you can, for example, take one lamp and hide everything household members did with it, leaving only automations and scripts. That makes a misbehaving automation much easier to spot. The reverse also works: pick a single person to see what they switched by hand, or pick Integrations to check what came in through HomeKit, Google Assistant or Node-RED.
The groundwork came in a separate pull request, #55063, merged 12 minutes earlier. It lets the history and activity panels build their own filter sections instead of sharing one fixed set, so the activity panel can offer a filter that would make no sense in history. That change has no visible effect on its own.
