VIEWE, a Shenzhen display maker, has released the PLCM-UES31S043H800V480C-U, a 4.3-inch touch display module built on Espressif's new ESP32-S31. CNX Software, which wrote it up on 14 October 2026, says it appears to be the first third-party development board with that chip. VIEWE sells it for $38.99 in its own store and plans to list it on AliExpress in the next few days.
What is on the board
The heart is an ESP32-S31-WROOM-3 module: a dual-core 32-bit RISC-V CPU at up to 320 MHz plus a low-power core, 512 KB of SRAM, 16 MB of PSRAM and 16 MB of flash. A single 2.4 GHz radio handles Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 (LE and Classic) and IEEE 802.15.4, so the same chip can talk Zigbee or Thread.
Around it VIEWE has packed:
- a 4.3-inch IPS panel with 800 × 480 pixels and 400 cd/m², driven over a 24-bit RGB interface, with GT911 capacitive touch;
- an ES8389 stereo codec, two NS4150B amplifiers with left and right speaker connectors, and two analog microphones;
- a USB-C port for power, flashing and serial debug through a CH340C, plus a USB-A port on the chip's USB 2.0 High-Speed OTG interface;
- RS485 and CAN on a 6-pin terminal block, a 4-bit microSD slot and a 2 × 10 GPIO header;
- a WS2812B RGB LED, a buzzer, four ADC buttons and BOOT/RESET buttons.
It runs from 5 V and draws about 320 mA with the backlight at full (500 mA maximum), or about 100 mA with the backlight off. The board measures 105 × 67 mm and is rated for -20 to 70 °C. VIEWE pitches it at smart home panels, edge HMIs and industrial control.
Two details for anyone planning a wired panel. The CAN transceiver is a SIT1050T running at 500 kbit/s, so this is classic CAN rather than CAN FD, as one CNX reader spotted. And although the ESP32-S31 has a gigabit Ethernet MAC, the board has no Ethernet port.
Software is the catch
The ESP32-S31 is still a preview target. For now you can program it only with ESP-IDF, on the master branch with the --preview flag, and VIEWE lists Arduino support as "in progress". The company provides a board support package (viewesmart/bsp_ues31s043h800v480c_u) and 18 examples covering the display, touch, audio, SD card, RS485, CAN, Wi-Fi 6, BLE HID, USB HID, AVI/MP4 playback and a full LVGL demo interface. Neither VIEWE nor CNX mentions ESPHome. Until the chip leaves preview, this board is for people who are comfortable in ESP-IDF, not for a quick wall panel for Home Assistant.
