Automations that react to a tap or swipe on Nanoleaf touch panels through a device trigger will stop working in Home Assistant 2026.11. Change #188656, merged into the development branch on 26 October 2026, deletes the Nanoleaf device trigger platform and is marked as a breaking change.
A deprecation nearly two years overdue
The device triggers were deprecated in June 2024 (change #120078, which shipped in Home Assistant 2024.7), and the removal was set for 2025.1. Since then Home Assistant has raised a repair issue whenever one of them was in use, but the code stayed. An issue opened on 29 September 2026 (#183616) pointed out the overdue removal, and Martin Hjelmare's change now closes it.
What breaks
Any automation that uses a Nanoleaf device trigger for one of the six gestures: single tap, double tap, and swipe up, down, left or right. In the automation editor these are the triggers you picked under the Nanoleaf device itself. After the update, those automations will no longer work.
Only touch-capable panels are involved. The integration creates the gesture entity for model codes NL29, NL42 and NL52. Plain light control is not affected.
What to use instead
Each touch-capable Nanoleaf device already has an event entity called Touch gesture. It was added as the replacement when the triggers were deprecated, and the change leaves it as it is. Its event types use the same names as the old triggers: single_tap, double_tap, swipe_up, swipe_down, swipe_left and swipe_right.
The breaking-change note in the change suggests an event.received trigger on that entity, filtered by its event_type attribute. If you prefer a plain state trigger, the entity's state changes to a new timestamp on every gesture, and the attribute says which one it was.
Automations that listen for the raw nanoleaf_event on the event bus keep working: the integration still fires it.
Before you update
Search your automations for Nanoleaf device triggers and rewrite them against the Touch gesture entity while you are still on 2026.10. If Home Assistant has been showing the "Nanoleaf device trigger is deprecated" repair issue, you have at least one to fix.
