Birdbuddy began selling two new smart bird feeders on 22 October 2026. Both were shown at CES 2026 in January under different names. The compact Birdbuddy 2 Mini is now called the Birdbuddy Nook, and the flagship Birdbuddy 2 is now the Birdbuddy Home. Both are available from Birdbuddy's online store, and some configurations were due at other retailers later in October.

Birdbuddy Nook

The Nook starts at $99. Birdbuddy calls it its "most accessible smart bird feeder yet". It uses a redesigned round 2K HDR camera with a 135-degree field of view. The camera wakes when a bird lands on the perch, so visits are not missed while the device is asleep, and it can record in landscape or portrait orientation. The seed container holds 3.8 cups (about 0.9 litres), which The Verge warns may need frequent refilling at a busy feeder.

There are three versions:

  • Nook for $99, battery only,
  • Nook Solar for $159, with a solar panel on the roof,
  • Nook Extended Edition for $199, which adds a longer perch for more birds.

Birdbuddy Home

The Home costs $219 and uses the same 2K HDR camera, but in a larger body meant to need less maintenance. It holds six cups of seed (about 1.4 litres), has two solar panels on the roof, a built-in perch extender and dual-band Wi-Fi. An upgraded microphone helps the app identify species by song as well as by image.

How it works

Both feeders send photos and clips to the Birdbuddy phone app, which uses AI to name the species. They compete with other camera bird feeders. In the same week, The Verge also reported discounts on Coolfly's Aura and the Birdfy Feeder, which identify more than 10,000 and 6,000 species respectively.

What is missing

The Verge's report does not cover local storage, subscription costs for the AI features or any integration with smart home platforms. It describes only the Birdbuddy app, so anyone hoping to bring the feeders into Home Assistant or Matter should not count on it. Prices are in US dollars. The sources give no European prices or dates.
