SwitchBot launched the AI Art Frame 2 on October 27, 2026. It is a battery-powered picture frame with a full-colour E Ink Spectra 6 panel, sold in 7.1, 13.3 and 31.5 inch sizes through SwitchBot's own shop and Amazon in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe.

A screen that does not glow

E Ink reflects room light instead of shining a backlight, so the frame looks closer to a print than to a tablet on the wall. There is no white mat around the picture, so the image runs to the edge of the walnut-colour wood-grain frame. An accelerometer detects whether the frame hangs in portrait or landscape.

The 7.1 inch version can stand on a desk or hang on a wall, the 13.3 inch one suits a sideboard or a hallway, and the 31.5 inch one is wall-mounted only. All three run from a built-in rechargeable battery. SwitchBot claims up to three years per charge, but only with one image change per day, and says the real figure depends on the model, the network and how the frame is used.

Getting pictures onto it

The frame ships with 500 curated masterpieces and a 16 GB microSD card that holds around 5,000 images locally. Photos are batch-uploaded from the SwitchBot app over Wi-Fi, and new images can be sent to it remotely, for example by family members. Pictures change from the app, with the button on the back or by tapping the frame three times. Slideshow and schedule modes rotate them automatically.

For smart home users the more useful line is in the small print: SwitchBot says the frame can also be managed with Alexa commands, through the SwitchBot API and from Home Assistant. The press release does not say whether that works locally or through the SwitchBot cloud, and it does not mention Matter.

The AI part costs extra

The "AI" in the name refers to SwitchBot AI Studio, a paid subscription with a 30-day free trial. It restyles a photo or a child's drawing as an oil painting or a sketch, generates a picture from a typed description or from one spoken after a long press of the function button, and has a Weather Muse mode that draws on the local forecast. Languages, generation limits and regional availability vary.

Prices

  • 7.1 inch: 169.99 USD, 199.99 EUR, 179.99 GBP
  • 13.3 inch: 399.99 USD, 429.99 EUR, 409.99 GBP
  • 31.5 inch: 1,399.99 USD, 1,599.99 EUR, 1,599.99 GBP

The jump to the largest size is steep, and the frame only makes sense if the picture changes rarely. E Ink panels redraw slowly, and every extra refresh shortens the time between charges.
