Home Assistant can hand Wi-Fi credentials to a new Shelly device over Bluetooth, so you don't have to join the device's own access point from your phone. Until now the last screen of that flow asked two questions: whether to switch off the device's Wi-Fi access point and whether to switch off Bluetooth RPC once the device was on the network. A change merged on 22 October 2026 removes both questions. From Home Assistant 2026.11 the integration always does both.
What changes
After Home Assistant puts the Shelly on your Wi-Fi, it connects to the device over IP and:
- turns off the device's Wi-Fi access point,
- turns off Bluetooth RPC, the interface that lets anyone in Bluetooth range send commands to the device,
- reboots the device once if either setting requires it.
Bluetooth itself stays on. Shelly devices that relay BLE sensors and buttons keep doing so, only remote commands over Bluetooth are closed.
The two checkboxes, "Disable Wi-Fi access point after provisioning" and "Disable Bluetooth RPC after provisioning", are gone from the Bluetooth confirmation screen. What's left is a simple question about whether to send Wi-Fi credentials to the device.
Why the questions went away
In the pull request, Shelly integration maintainer Shay Levy (thecode) explains that many users don't know what the Wi-Fi access point or Bluetooth RPC is, so asking about them during setup was confusing and added a decision nobody needed. Both options were already checked by default, and he argues there is no good reason to leave the access point or BLE RPC open on a device Home Assistant has just put on Wi-Fi.
In practice this means fewer ways in. An open setup access point is a second door into the device, and an active Bluetooth RPC lets someone nearby control it. With this change a Shelly added this way leaves the setup flow secure by default, with no settings to remember.
If you really need the access point or Bluetooth RPC on a particular device, you can still turn them back on in the Shelly's own web interface. This only affects devices set up over Bluetooth from Home Assistant. Devices that are already configured are not touched.
