The Teslemetry integration gets two new actions for Tesla Powerwall owners in Home Assistant 2026.11. Pull request #188303 by Brett Adams (Bre77), merged into the development branch on 25 October 2026, adds teslemetry.dispatch_battery_power and teslemetry.resume_battery_operation. Their documentation was merged into the next branch of the docs on 26 October.

Set power, set time

Dispatch battery power makes the Powerwall hold a given battery power for a given time. It takes three fields:

  • Energy site: the site to control, which must be paired with its Powerwall for local control.
  • Power: in watts, from -100,000 to 100,000. A positive value discharges the battery, a negative value charges it.
  • Duration: in seconds, from 1 to 86,400, so up to a day.

When the time is up, the Powerwall returns to its normal operation by itself. A new call replaces the power and duration of the previous one. The documentation's example charges the battery at 5 kW for 30 minutes:

action: teslemetry.dispatch_battery_power
data:
  device_id: 0d462c0c4c0b064b1a91cdbd1ffcbd31
  power: -5000
  duration: 1800

Resume battery operation ends a dispatch early and hands control back to the Powerwall. It is not needed for a dispatch to end, and calling it with no dispatch active does nothing.

The documentation names two typical uses: discharging into the grid during a demand response event, and charging from the grid when the electricity price is negative. With a dynamic tariff sensor in Home Assistant, both fit into an ordinary automation.

Local only

Both actions are sent directly to the Powerwall over the local network, not through the cloud. They only work for an energy site paired for local control, and only while the Powerwall can be reached. Pairing is done from the Teslemetry integration with the "Add local energy site" option and works with a Powerwall 2 or Powerwall 3.

Limits

The Powerwall still applies its own backup reserve and grid limits, so the power it actually reaches can be lower than requested. The action also needs Powerwall firmware that supports battery dispatch. On older firmware it fails with an error saying so.

This is another step in local Powerwall support in Teslemetry. A change merged on 15 October already makes the integration read live values from a paired Powerwall every 5 seconds.
