Matic launched the Matic Serene on 27 October 2026, its first new robot vacuum since the original Matic appeared in 2023. The new model has one headline change: noise. Matic says the Serene runs at 52 dB on its highest suction setting, about as loud as a running refrigerator. It costs $1,695 in the US and is available now.
What changed
According to The Verge, the Serene looks the same as the current Matic. The difference is a new hardware stack that lowers noise. Co-founder and president Mehul Nariyawala said that beyond noise it is "exactly the same Matic", and that the model targets people "who are extremely noise sensitive". The original Matic was rated at 55 dB on its highest level and stays on sale at $1,495.
Three decibels may sound small, but the comparison with other robots matters more. Most robot vacuums reach roughly 55-60 dB only in quiet modes that cut suction, and are closer to 70 dB at full power. Matic claims its robot cleans at full suction at a level where, as Nariyawala put it, "you mostly hear brush roll now", on carpets and hard floors alike. These are the company's figures. The Verge plans a full review but had not tested the Serene at the time of the report.
A different kind of robot
Matic differs from the lidar-based disc robots sold by iRobot, Roborock, Dreame and others. It is taller and carries its dust bag and water tank on board instead of using a large dock. Its navigation also works differently. The company says it designed the robot around the "seven deadly sins of robot vacuums", with noise, getting stuck and dying under the sofa high on the list.
Upgrade for existing owners
Owners of the original Matic can request a hardware upgrade to Serene in early 2027. They pay the difference between their original purchase price and the Serene's $1,695. Matic's price has risen several times since launch, so early buyers who paid $1,095 would face a $600 upgrade. The Verge calls that "probably a tough sell".
What the report leaves out
The Verge article covers noise, price and the upgrade path only. It does not mention smart home integration, local control or availability outside the US. The European price and launch date are unknown.
