Firmware 1.0.5 for Sonoff's TP-WGZBA, the Zigbee wall thermostat sold as Thermostat Core, was added to zigpy-ota on 15 October 2026. zigpy-ota is the firmware collection used by zigpy, the library behind Home Assistant's ZHA integration, and the image shipped the same day in the collection's 2026.10.2 release on the stable channel.

Two fixes for scheduled heating

The release notes list two changes:

  • With a weekly schedule active, the setpoint no longer falls back to 5 °C at midnight. That is the thermostat's frost-protection temperature, not a value anyone scheduled.
  • Temperature compensation has been reworked, so the reported temperature no longer jumps by 0.5-1.6 °C when the heating relay switches.

Both problems were reported by users in the discussion of the pull request that adds ZHA support for the device. On 12 October, GitHub user viys answered there that both were fixed in 1.0.5, "which we're planning to release this week", and added that the 00:00 slot now holds its scheduled temperature. The submission to zigpy-ota is marked as tested on a device.

The device

The TP-WGZBA is a mains-powered (100-240 V) Zigbee 3.0 panel for hydronic underfloor heating and boilers. It has a powered relay output for underfloor heating actuators, rated at up to 3 A, and a potential-free contact for switching a boiler. It stores three weekly schedules with up to 12 periods a day and keeps running them from its own clock when the Zigbee connection is down. It also has presence sensing that wakes the display, open-window detection, and an input for an external 10 kΩ NTC floor sensor. Sonoff says the 3 A relay is not suitable for directly driving electric underfloor heating.

Who gets the update

ZHA users on Home Assistant Core 2026.1.0 or later see zigpy-ota updates in the UI automatically, without adding the collection by hand. Full ZHA support for the thermostat is a separate matter: the quirk pull request (#5201), open since July, had not been merged by 16 October, and Sonoff's own product page notes that some features do not work out of the box in ZHA yet.

Zigbee2MQTT supports the TP-WGZBA from version 2.14.0, according to Sonoff, but it takes firmware from its own index. On 16 October, that index (Koenkk/zigbee-OTA) had no entry for this image, so Zigbee2MQTT users will have to wait for it to be added there.
